RUBIK'S TIMER

TIMER GUIDE · KEYBOARD & TOUCH

From scramble to saved solve

The main timer is intentionally quiet: the scramble, timer and the few controls you need are prominent; deeper history and session tools stay nearby.

Start the timer

1. Prepare the scramble

The current scramble appears above the timer, with a cube preview beside it. Apply the moves to your physical cube in order. Use the copy button when you want the notation elsewhere, or generate a new scramble. Redo returns to the previous scramble if you changed it accidentally.

2. Start on a keyboard

  1. Place the cursor outside text inputs and menus.
  2. Hold Space until the timer turns green.
  3. Release Space to start.
  4. Press Space again when the solve ends.

The short hold prevents accidental starts. The timer saves the completed solve, creates the next scramble and refreshes the visible statistics.

3. Start on touch

On a touch device, press and hold the timer area until it becomes ready, release to start, then tap the full-screen stop surface when you finish. Keep browser zoom and accidental gestures in mind when comparing touch timing with a dedicated competition timer.

4. Read progress without losing focus

Best, Ao3, Ao5 and Ao12 summarize the active session. The recent-solves table, date filter and session chart let you look deeper after a practice block. See the statistics guide for the exact calculations used by this app.

5. Use sessions deliberately

The Default session is the protected full-solve bucket. Create named sessions for a particular cube, technique or practice goal, then switch sessions from the bar or session manager. You can rename sessions, move individual solves, move a session's solves, or remove a session without mixing its practice history into Default.

6. Guest storage, accounts and backups

As a guest, solves are stored in this browser on this device. An account stores supported profile and solve data in the cloud and makes named practice sessions available after login. Export CSV for a portable backup. Import expects columns including time_ms and scramble; valid rows are added to their listed session or the active session.

Imported rows rebuild history; they do not represent new timer activations in analytics. Always keep a backup before a large import or cleanup.

Next: make it social

Use Local 2P for two timers on one keyboard or Online 2P for a friend in another browser. The 3D training room is a separate collaborative space for cube moves rather than physical solve timing.
